Housesoiling is the number one reason cats are banished to the outdoors, relinquished or euthanized!! There are three main causes of housesoiling in cats: lower urinary tract disease (infection and/or inflammation; marking; and either aversion or preferences of sites or substrates. When your cat is soiling outside the box, always have your veterinarian rule out or treat lower urinary tract disease.
The most current research has determined that when it comes down to litter and litter boxes, cats prefer:clumping litters; activated charcoal over sodium bicarbonate; if fragranted,cedar scent (avoid citrus scent); large or jumbo-sized litter boxes.
